Welcome aboard The Ark

By alain on Tuesday 14 August, 2007

An unknown virus has destroyed almost the entire human population. Oblivious to the true natre of the disease, the only remaining survivors escape to the sea. In great ships, they set off in search of uninhabited land. So begins the exodus, led by one man…

The short movie The Ark takes you to a dark world where fear for the virus dominates. You can feel the tension and in the trailer below you can see part of the superb animation. Grzegorz Jonkajtys and Marcin Kobylecki, the creators of The Ark, already received several big prices. Only last week they won the award Best of Show at the Siggraph festival. Who knows, maybe they will receive a nomination for best animated short for the 80th edition of the Academy Awards.

Disney retro pin-ups

By alain on Tuesday 14 August, 2007

Who says animation can’t be sexy? These alternative versions of famous Disney women are pretty interesting. On her website Amy Mebberson shows a couple of digital drawings of Disney princesses in another spotlight. Some creations look better than the other, however the retro pinup look generally works out fine.

Monsters vs. Aliens – Release 05/15/09 (US)

By alain on Sunday 12 August, 2007

insectosaurusconcept.jpg

Jeffrey Katzenberg is one of the fans of 3D, so it’s no miracle that Dreamworks Animation announced that all of it’s movies will be released in 3D starting from 2009. The first project is titled Monsters vs. Aliens and will be released on May 15 2009 in the US. The movie will be directed by Conrad Vernon and Rob Letterman.

The classic fifties monster movie will be reinvented in this modern action comedy about Rex Havoc. The story is based on the comic “Rex Havoc and The Ass-Kickers of the Fantastic.” Havoc is the leader of a team of monster-catching experts, who already suffered from some brain damage caused by a golf stick while being attacked by vampires.  Cable television on earth is threatened by aliens. It’s now up to Rex and his Ass-Kicker team to use the monsters in the battle against the aliens. Sounds freaky…. I can’t wait !

Animated Commercials - Part III

By alain on Saturday 11 August, 2007

This advertisement is created by Aardman to promote the Countryside Code in the United Kingdom. The animals of Creature Comforts give some advise on how to behave on the countryside, the coast and the British ‘Moorlands’.

‘Endless Cookie’ is a very nice animation for Zune, the MP3-player of Microsoft. If you know that you can share a song endlessly with Zune and this way the network keeps growing, it all becomes a bit more clear. This commercial is made by Passion Pictures and the song is Magic Trick by M. Ward.
